Specialized topics related to Internet authentication and security. Topics CoveredSpecialized topics including those selected from: advanced authentication techniques, user interface aspects, electronic and digital signatures, security infrastructures and protocols, software vulnerabilities affecting security, untrusted software and hosts, protecting software and digital content. PrerequisitesCOMP 4108 (computer systems security) and COMP 3000 (operating systems), or equivalents. Otherwise requires instructor permission. Course ObjectivesExposure to advanced topics in authentication and software security, both as a platform for further research, and as general background for a computer scientist, software developer, and Internet user. Library ReservesNone. Laboratory SoftwareGeneral access to web browser and standard tools for accessing web resources. EvaluationStudents will be evaluated in this course according to the following measures. Important Dates
Classes scheduled from Sept.14 to Dec.7 2009. Holiday on Oct.12. AssignmentsNo extensions on project dates. Late penalty is 20% per day late. PresentationsA class presentation related to Project 2 is required by all students. The oral presentation will be approximately 30 minutes (depending on the number of students enrolled as a final number). It must include as a minimum a clear description of the main problems being addressed in the project, and solid motivation (e.g. why the problems are important). It may involve use of an overhead projector, laptop plus data projector, handouts, etc. (all arranged by the student). AttendanceStudents are expected to attend all classes and contribute to discussions. 10% of the course mark is assigned to Class Participation. This includes preparation (readings in advance), contributions to discussion within class, attendance (including of other students' presentations).
