Experimental Algorithmics

My research area is in the design of efficient algorithms for a variety of computational problems. Like most of my colleagues I design algorithms, prove their correctness, and prove bounds on their running times but I seldom implement them. I am, however, interested in robust and efficient implementations of algorithms, especially geometric algorithms, especially my own. Implementing and experimentally evaluating an algorithm for the first time is a good opportunity to really learn the intricacies of the algorithm, to find any technical difficulties in implementing it, and to find any optimizations that might make it work better in practice.

A project in this category requires the robust implementation of one or more algorithms (subject to my approval) and a thorough battery of performance and correctness tests. If you are interested in implementing an algorithm or two, have a look at my list of publications and see if there's something there that interests you.
