Carleton University - School of Computer Science Undergraduate Honours Project Winter 2010 Modelling and Implementation of a Robot in a 3D Virtual Robotics Simulator Ian Armstrong
ABSTRACT Due to the growing interest in the robotics field at Carleton University, there is a shortage of robot availability. Currently, students are restricted to specific times of the week where they can work with the robots. It is difficult to increase the number of robots due to the high price tag attached to each one, not to mention that there is a limited amount of space available for the robots to operate in. This project offers a solution. It gives the students the chance to work in a simulated environment with simulated robots at home. Using Microsoft Robotics Developer Studio, virtual robots (based off of the real robots found in the 5147HP robotics lab) have been modelled and equipped with all the same functionality and tools as their original counterparts. This paper will explain how the virtual robots were made, what kind of abilities they have and how they can be useful in a robotics course. |
