Story Analysis Algorithm and Database Designed for Creativity Enhancement Software for Video Game Authors

Andrew Erdeg

ABSTRACT

Current video game technology has pushed the boundaries of computer graphics to almost photo realistic levels. Investment in cutting edge graphics technology has taken priority over creating believable characters and compelling stories for video games. Previous project work on this subject resulted in the development of a piece of software that allowed non technical video game authors to prototype their stories. The objective of this project is to develop an algorithm that will analyze a particular inspirational author’s body of works in order to generate a database of words that are related by their proximity in the text. The algorithm and database explores the idea that inspiration can be derived from word associations and by emulating the themes and ideas explored by famous artists. The algorithm will automatically generate suggestions for word associations by searching through the database for words that are related to tagged elements from the author’s prototyped story.
