Carleton University - School of Computer Science Undergraduate Honours Project Winter 2011 iPhone Application for Grade 11 High School Mathematics Rafael Guembes
ABSTRACT In math, polynomials have been identified as a critical skill in terms of achieving success in grade 12 and post-secondary education. Lack of skill in knowing how to factor polynomial equations contributes to low performance in higher grades. A correct and simple solution to improve performances in this skill was necessary. This project served as a means to create an end-to-end solution for real customers in the educational domain and apply knowledge learned as an undergraduate student at Carleton University. This was an opportunity to help high school students improve their mathematical skills. This was also an opportunity to create an application that included most aspects of a typical consumer application such as development of graphics, user interface, algorithms, reusability of available libraries from Objective-C, simple persistence objects, building a supporting website and meeting customer expectations. The goal for the project was to create a fun and interactive application that can improve the skill of factoring polynomial equations. The application was to be developed for the iPhone/iTouch platform and deployed to mobile devices in a high school in Ottawa. This application would need to be simple to use and produce the right results all the time. |
