ABSTRACT Some people that have not been around campus before might have a hard time finding some buildings. The university provides maps located all across campus, inside tunnels, as handouts in specific locations and a digital version (a mere pdf file). Wouldn't it be nice if you could pop out your "smartphone" and get directions to reach a building on campus without having to look at those maps? Developing on mobile phones was to some extent limited, because not all phones were running on the same operating system and some were only capable of performing the most basic functions. Developers had to code the same software for different platforms. Users couldn't switch phones without risking losing their applications. This document introduces the Android Platform and follows with some basic background information about it. After that, a brief explanation of the software design approach taken along with its rationale. It concludes with a summary of what has been learned and some suggestions regarding future work associated with this project. |
