PropBot and RoboNova Controller Application

Iftekharul Khan

ABSTRACT

Although robots as we know them today are a relatively recent invention, the idea of automated machine or a mechanical man has fascinated the human mind since the ancient times. This paper details the processes of the designs, developments and implementations of two separate applications for two different robots as well as embedded robot side logics to perform higher level tasks using sensor data depending on the surroundings. Wireless technology (Bluetooth) has been used to combine embedded programming and JAVA-based application. One of the applications, using wireless communication, receives sensor data from the PropBot (wheeled Robot, Figure 1) and can also generate simple map of the environment besides other responsibilities. It also demonstrates the use of different sensors mounted on the robot. The other application is designed for the RoboNova (legged Robot, Figure 2) to perform some basic as well as some other interesting routines. The application can also be used to navigate the Robot successfully through the environment.
