Triangle Localization Algorithm Based on Received Signal Strength Indication

Yunpeng Liu

ABSTRACT

To meet the security requirements for increasing personal wireless devices, localization of wireless devices becomes pretty significant to our users. In this paper, we will come up one in-building localization algorithm based on received signal strength indication: Triangle Localization Algorithm (TLA). This paper will begin with the introduction of several famous signal propagation models. Like other traditional in-building localization algorithms, TLA is also implemented by reading received signal strength indication (RSSI), however, traditional in-building localization based on RSSI only indicate the distance to wireless terminal, while TLA in this paper will get the distance and direction of the wireless device (signal sender). To implement triangle localization algorithm, signal receiver needs to equip with three antennas, whose RSSI value will tell a specific direction and get the distance to sender by mathematical methods. This paper will describe TLA algorithm theory and implementation methods, then analyze advantages and disadvantages. It also suggests some practical applications of TLA in daily life.
