ABSTRACT User selected text-based passwords are used as the primary method of authentication on websites such as social networking sites, online banking, e-commerce sites etc. However, users often create passwords that are weak and easy to remember. In this project, we created a password strength meter to generate passwords that are more secure than passwords generated by current password strength meters such as Gmail. We conducted a usability study for the new password strength meter which showed that users found the new password strength meter stringent but safer to use than current strength meters. The results of the usability study were inconclusive and more participants need to be tested in order to arrive at a conclusion. |
