Carleton University - School of Computer Science Undergraduate Honours Project Summer 2010 Remote Tracking of a GPS Tracking Device with Google Maps via GSM Cellular Networks Michael Nemat
ABSTRACT In the past few years, there has been a growing trend of incorporating geo-location technologies with mobile communication devices. Recently, this growth has been spurred by social networking and location-aware software applications. The demand for real-time geo-location tracking of assets and persons has been growing while the costs associated with these technologies have been dropping. As a result, many corporations, even individuals, are using these technologies in a cost-effective fashion to achieve goals which may have been too complex or prohibitively expensive to achieve in the past. This project will demonstrate how to build an end-to-end solution for near-real-time geo-location tracking by integrating a wide variety of readily available components and some custom hardware and software into a purpose-built geo-location platform. This solution, as opposed to purchasing an end-to-end product commercially, is much more desirable, both from a cost and security perspective. |
