Carleton University - School of Computer Science Undergraduate Honours Project Summer 2012 Carleton Guide: An application for general information about Carleton University campus on Android platform Elom Tsiagbey
ABSTRACT The emergence of smartphones in recent years has dramatically shaped the world in various fields. The use of smartphones and Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs) has become increasingly common because of their coupling with modern day technologies such as Global Positioning Systems (GPS) and cameras. These added technologies can be leveraged to create ground-breaking mobile applications that will be useful to accomplish everyday tasks. This project - Carleton Guide, will demonstrate how technologies such as the GPS can be leveraged to create a useful mobile application for users. The primary objective of Carleton Guide is to create a full-fledged Android application which helps people on the Carleton University campus navigate around the huge campus by easily locating popular spots such as parking, buildings, departments and dining services. The users of the application will not only find the location of these spots on campus but at the same time obtain valuable information such as the services offered by these departments. |
