ARP SPOOF ATTACK MITIGATION AND THREAT ANALYSIS IN MOBILE AD HOC NETWORKS (MANETs)

Bart Wernik

ABSTRACT

The following paper proposes an algorithm to run within a Mobile Ad hoc Network (MANET) implementing the Dynamic Source Routing (DSR) protocol. It is intended to help mitigate against network attacks such as Address Resolution Protocol (ARP) spoofing (also known as ARP cache poisoning), man-in-the middle attacks, and Internet Protocol (IP) spoofing. It is implemented using DSR protocol architecture and secures ARP cache entries by introducing a barrier in the form of lease files to prevent unnecessary updates to the tables. A threat analysis of each attack is presented before and after implementation of our algorithm.
