Carleton University - School of Computer Science Undergraduate Honours Project Fall 2012 Distributed Web-Based Multitouch Architecture -- A Breadth-First Prototype Jeff Wilson
ABSTRACT Multitouch platforms offer great opportunities for collaborative applications, but to support software development there needs to be a distributed architecture to allow for real-time remote and collocated coordination. There are various platforms with native support for multitouch in large and small devices such as Microsoft Surface, Android, and iOS-supported equipment, however there are numerous practical advantages to targeting web browsers as platforms for application development. It remains to be seen whether multitouch applications are well supported by recent editions of popular browsers across these desktop and mobile operating systems. This Honours Project will explore the current state of the art of multitouch support in recent browser releases by developing a prototype web application with supporting infrastructure that enables real-time collaboration between large and small multitouch surfaces. |
