Account Creation

The account creation system allows you to not only create your SCS accounts but also to manage it. This includes updating your account (with your current courses) and changing your password.

The SCS account creation system allows users to:

  • create a SCS account (Windows, Linux, and DB2),
  • change your SCS password (Windows, Linux, and DB2),
  • update your account for the current term (Re-activate it for the current term)

using your web-browser.

SCS account requirements

  1. Internet access or be able to physically go to an SCS lab 1) ,
  2. must be registered in an SCS course or be enrolled in the SCS program,
  3. must be able to log-into your Carleton wide Connect account. 2)

Your SCS account will have the same name as your Connect username even though they are totally different accounts. Your Connect account is administered by the university wide CCS group and your SCS account is administered by the Technical Staff at the School of Computer Science.

You can use the account creation system by going to an SCS lab and typing 'newacct' as the Login and leaving the password blank. This procedure will launch the account creation system

Accept SCS Policy

In order to use an SCS account you must agree to the terms and conditions set out by the School of Computer Science for use of the labs, account, and network.

Do you have a Connect Account?

You require a university wide Connect account in order to create an SCS account. If you do not already have a Connect account you will need to create a Connect account before proceeding to the next step.

Student Computing Accounts for University of Ottawa Students (http://apps.carleton.ca/ccs/acct/student/ouaccount.asp).

  1. Enter your CCS Connect/Cmail account and password
  2. Choose your new SCS password
  3. Enter the reCAPTCHA

If you cannot De-cypher the reCAPTCHA then you can get a new challenge by selecting the button on the right hand side of the reCAPTCHA

Choose your account creation option

There are three possible account creation options:

  1. Create and SCS Account
  2. Change your SCS password
  3. Update your account for the current term

Make your selection and continue to the next step.

Update Entry Form

The update entry form looks as follows (depending on your account creation option):

  • new account entry form,,
  • change password entry form,
  • update account entry form.

Your password rquires a special character such as '_' or '-' or one of: !@$%&…

You will then need to enter:

  • your university wide Connect account,
  • your Connect password,
  • your NEW SCS password

Final Step

Once you submit your account option the final screen will let you know if the operation was successful. Some things to remember:

  • Linux account creation and password changes are immediate
  • DB2 Passwords will be displayed here (password is a 3 digit hex string)
  • Please take note of any errors
