SCS Courses Website

All SCS courses for the current term are listed online. The purpose of the SCS Courses listing is to have a centralized place where all the currently running courses are listed and linked to the instructors personal course website. It is the instructors responsibility to add their course to the SCS website. You can add your course by logging into the SCS Web Editor using your active SCS Linux Account.

  • Web Editor Login (Section B choose SCS Courses)
  • SCS /courses listing (for current courses)

Your course can be added weeks or months in advance. To check an upcoming terms courses you will need to use this format in the courses URL:

http://www.scs.carleton.ca/courses/index.php?Term=Fall&Year=2005

This particular URL will display the Fall 2005 course listing.

SCS Course Outlines

The SCS staff have developed a way for faculty to generate a course outline. The system will include pertinent information that is already present online, like your personal profile (office hours, room number, email etc.). It will also link to your online course and use necessary information.

In other words the course profile consists of information gathered from the following three sources:

  1. Information you entered for the course outline (enter/update through the SCS web-editor option: scs_courses_outline)
  2. Information you entered for your course under ~courses (enter/update through the SCS web-editor option: scs_courses)
  3. Information that is present in your SCS web-profile (enter/update through the SCS web-editor option: people_faculty)

Once you have entered the above information you will be able to view your course outline here with 'debugging' messages: http://www.scs.carleton.ca/~courses/course_outline.php

Any red fields are mandatory fields that must be entered per university policy. Yellow fields are recommended but not necessary and green fields are optional fields.

If you have entered course information the online profile will also appear on the main ~courses page.

Why should I use this course outline system:

  • We will insert university wide policy information automatically with the 'latest' wording. This includes info for the Paul Menton Centre, Medical Certificates, pregnancy, academic integrity policies etc.
  • The course outline list in 'debug' mode will insert comments about missing mandatory fields that must be present in your course outline. It will also list possible fields that you may wish to add.
  • It will generate a printable copy of your course outline
  • Fields can accept html so you can format your text accordingly (example using bullets or bolding text)

Web Bio: Online Faculty List

All SCS faculty are listed here: SCS Faculty List and SCS Directory. You can display your faculty bio using this link:

http://www.scs.carleton.ca/people/people_bio.php?Name=John Doe

replacing 'John Doe' with your name. The bio page includes the following info:

  • Courses that you are currently teaching
  • Biographical Info
  • Office Hours
  • Honours Project Topics
  • News Items that pertain to you
  • Seminars that pertain to you

You can edit your particular faculty bio using the SCS Web Editor (part B choose the people_faculty option).
