SCS Email Upgrade Information

The SCS technical Staff are in the process of upgrading the SCS email server. The new email server will have:

  • larger inbox size (1 GB)
  • better spam protection
  • two webmail clients

In order to facilitate the changes all users will need to create a new account on the new server. Documentation will become available on how to move files from your old email account.

Account creation for the new SCS network is CLOSED at this time. The account creation will OPEN at the beginning of the Fall 2009 term.

Here are the email links for the SCS email web clients:

You cannot read your davinci mail using the new Web Mail client (RoundCube and the new Horde IMP)

Moving mail folders from daVinci

If you have an existing account on davinci and you want to make your existing mailboxes accessible on mail.scs.carleton.ca then you can do the following.

  1. zip or tar your mail folders
  2. copy the files to access.scs.carleton.ca
  3. extract your mail folders

Example:

User jdoe is using daVinci.scs.carleton.ca and wants to use mail.scs.carleton.ca and have his davinci mail boxes accessible.

[jdoe@zeta03 ~]$ tar -cvf old_mail.tar ~/mail/
[jdoe@zeta03 ~]$ scp old_mail.tar access:.
[jdoe@zeta03 ~]$ ssh access.scs.carleton.ca
[jdoe@access ~]$ tar -xvf old_mail.tar

Once you connect to mail.scs.carleton.ca you can then import your mail folders from your home directory.
