SCS Windows/Vista Lab Account Upgrade

There are some exciting changes happening at SCS concerning the Windows labs. The technical staff are in the process of upgrading:

  • the file server (more space for users!)
  • improved login times
  • updated software applications
  • newer computer hardware

In order to facilitate the changes all users will need to create a new account on the new server. Read the docs below if you need to recover any old files from your old account.

You will benefit from these changes during the Fall 2009 term.

How to recover files from your old account

Some computers in HP3341 are labeled Old Server File Recovery Station. These computers are connected to the old system. You can log in to your old account and password, and then copy your files from the computer onto a USB device.

Bring your USB pen when you copy your files

I forgot my password on the old system!

If you forgot your password on the old system:

  1. log in normally on a different computer, for example one on the new system
  2. After logging in, use a browser to go to https://proton.scs.carleton.ca/web_newacct/
  3. follow the instructions 1)
  4. go back to an old system and use your newly changed password
1) remember to choose 'change password'
