A new Handoff Scheme for Vehicular Ad-hoc Network
Speaker: Jiang Zhiyuan

Location: LMX 360 (Lamoureux)
ABSTRACT

Nowadays with the help of vehicular ad hoc network (VANET) technologies, vehicles can communicate with their correspondent nodes through the Internet. This kind of wireless networks brings a lot of new applications such as online games, VoIP, etc. However, the VANETs face a great challenge: the high mobility of vehicles results in frequent handoffs, which may injure the performance of service by packet loss and obvious jitter. This presentation introduces a coverage-based fast handoff scheme. In the handover process, vehicles choose the accessible access point with best coverage contribution instead of signal strength. The simulation results show that the times of handoff and handoff latency can be significantly reduced by using the proposed scheme.
