Harnessing Social Networks to Mine Semantics from Social Images.
Speaker: Alzamzami Fatimah Yousef

Location: 3101 CB (Canal Building)
ABSTRACT

With the increasing number of images being uploaded to social networks every day, the resources to identify a large portion of the world have become available. However, the existing tools to exploit this information are still not sufficient. In this thesis, we want to harness the contextual metadata of the images to extract a meaningful semantic of social users. Using this information we can enhance the existing recommendation systems in social networks such as Facebook and LinkedIn, to suggest friends more accurately and to recommend advertisements based on a user's interests. Through combining a user's personal information as well as images context we make stronger recommendations that based on personal information alone.
