Automatic image colorization using superpixel representation
Speaker: Alfraidi Hanadi Humoud

Location: STE 5084 (EECS building conference room)
ABSTRACT

Image colorization is a computer-assisted process of giving colors to a grayscale image or video, aiming at increasing the visual appeal of images such as: old black and white photos, classic movies or scientific illustrations, etc. This process is very tedious, time consuming and requires prior knowledge and artistic skills. Many techniques have been introduced by researchers to reduce the user interaction in the colorization process. However, No unique solution for the colorization problem and the human interaction plays an important role in colorization process. One of these techniques is to colorize the gray images using the superpixel representation of the reference color images to learn the relationship between image features and the corresponding color value to predict the color value of each superpixel in the grayscale image. I will be presenting a brief description of the colorization methods, highlighting different techniques and focusing on the Automatic image colorization method using superpixel representation.
