The OCICS Graduate Seminar Series COMP5904 (CSI5902) aims at improving your skills in making a public presentation, including your thesis defence. To pass this course you will:
- have to attend five of the seminars held at the University of Ottawa and at Carleton University and
- have to make one successful presentation (using powerpoint slides or pdf).
When you attend a seminar, please do not forget to sign the attendance sheet, which is proof of your attendance. The regulations state that you must attend five seminars at Carleton University and five seminars at the University of Ottawa to successfully complete the course. During the registered term, you must give one public presentation (20 minutes for the presentation and 10 minutes for a question/answer period) and the presentation is evaluated by the seminar supervisor and audience. Registration To register for the seminar course you MUST:
- complete a Permission Form and bring it to Anna Riethman.
- Your supervisor must complete an Abstract Approval Form
- Before you can reserve a time for your presentation, you must send your supervisor-approved abstract in plain text (MS Word is not plain text!) to Anna Riethman
- Finally, before you can give your presentation you and your supervisor must complete a Presentation Approval Form at least 2 weeks before your presentation. Failure to do so will result in your presentation being cancelled.
Arriving Late Arriving late at someone's seminar is considered rude: both to the audience and especially to the speaker. If you arrive late, enter, take a late-ticket, and then be seated as quietly as possible. At the end the current presentation, you will have to apologize to the speaker and the audience for interrupting their presentation. Detailed Rules and Regulations For more rules and regulations about the graduate seminar, see the information (starting on page 24) in the Graduate Handbook.
