The field of computational geometry deals with the
design, analysis and implementation of efficient algorithms for
geometric problems. The types of problems addressed by computational geometry have applications in many areas including manufacturing, geographic information systems, mobile computing, medical information systems, computational biology, computational statistics, and
computational chemistry.
Solutions to problems in computational geometry often combine techniques from several areas of mathematics and computer science, including algorithm design, numerical methods, graph theory, and combinatorial geometry.
The Computational Geometry Lab is funded by contributions from CFI, OIT, NSERC, Dell and Shapegrabber. It includes 16 workstations and a Shapegrabber Gantry 3d laser scanner.
