Canada's health care system is under tremendous pressure to provide high quality care and there is a growing need to introduce new technology to assist medical care providers in managing the large numbers of patients who request services. Although technology and information systems are currently being used by hospitals and other health care providers, there is great potential for using new and advanced technology to provide physicians and patients with consistent information about the care that they deliver or are about to receive. Research in this area focuses on a number of health-related technological issues and the development of new technologies that can assist health care administrators, providers and clients. It includes emerging areas such as telemedicine (Mobile Patient, Mobile Doctor and Follow-Me medical records), cancer treatment planning, and medical data mining.
