Ottawa-Carleton Institute for Computer Science School of Computer Science Carleton University Supervisor: Douglas Howe ABSTRACT This thesis presents Choc, a concurrent, higher-order, object-based command language. Choc forms the basis for the Choc shell, a reimagining of the Unix shell. The Choc shell retains the familiar look and feel of current Unix shells while making considerable improvements to the shell as a programming language.
